The Eighth Annual Independent meeting of the Ancient Philosophy Society will be held in New York City at the New School for Social Research on April 10-13, 2008.Papers on any topic in ancient Greek and Roman philosophy are invited. Papers should be no more than 3000 words, 30 minutes reading time. Panel proposals will be considered, though they should be as complete as possible. Please prepare papers for blind review, with personal information on a cover sheet. Abstracts will not be considered.

I’ve recently written an unpublished paper that has earned tremendous praise from the few professors who have seen it. I’m considering it for submission here, and I am requesting to know if there are any other specific guidelines other than those posted here concerning 4 paper copies and 1 digital copy. (spacing, fonts, style, etc…)

The call for papers says 3,000 words or 30 minutes reading time. Wouldn’t approximately 5,000 words be closer in equivalence to 30 minutes reading time (i.e., about 14-15 pages)? I think 3,000 words translates to about 8-10 pages, or fewer than 20 minutes reading time.

Yes, you may be right about this. I will talk it over with the Executive Committee, but I imagine that these guidelines were established to err on the side of brevity as 30 minutes easily bleeds into 40 and we, as always, want to maximize time for discussion. I hope you are well.
